I remember swimming in the Ituni pool. The water was very dark and you could not see in front of you. We used to play a game whereby one person was on one side of the pool and the other kids were lined up on the other side of the pool. The object was that we had to dive in and make it to the other side without getting ‘tagged” by the single person. If you were tagged it was your turn to catch someone. Of course swimming in the dark water made it difficult to be tagged as you could not see anything. It was also a little scary when someone grabbed you. Ahhh, the good old days.
Gosh, look what’s happened to our childhood places!
We had quite a few getaways in Ituni. I have photos of us in the pool with the Flynns. They had a parakeet that sat on my sister’s shoulder, and a duck that was in the pool with us. I don’t recall the dark water or the tag game, but that doesn’t mean a thing!
Will be thinking of the kids at Gibson’s.
I’ll be housesitting for step-grandsons outside of Toronto from tomorrow till the 9th. Three of them. Help.
Take care,
Pat
Hi John was right the water in the pool was darker than the one in Watooka.
I especially remember the high diving board, how sad to see what has happened to Ituni. are there people living there now?
I remember the wood fence that ran around the pool and we had to clib up a few steps from the road to get to the pool. we often found frogs in the pool.
When we would go for a night swim it only had one flood light that lit up the pool and it was scarry to cross the dark road with the night crickets to get back to the gust house.
But what a life we had.!
Wow! Great photos. What a difference half a century makes. So sad.
