This is a collective blog for the kids that grew up in Watooka when the Bauxite plant was owned by Demba.
Watooka was part of Mackenzie, British Guiana (British Colony in South America, until 1966).
In modern times MacKenzie is often referred to as Linden, Guyana.
British Guiana is now an independent country going by the name Guyana (Amerindian name meaning Land of Many Waters). It remains today as the only English speaking country in South America.
Demba is an acronym for the “Demerara Bauxite Company” owned by Alcan of Canada. At one time Demba was one of the worlds largest suppliers of Bauxite.
Bauxite is the ore that Aluminum is made from (Looks like clay).
To join up just throw in a comment or two and we’ll get back using your email.
And if you know of a person in a similar situation then all you have to do to join is sing a bar of “Yellow Bird” in three part harmony and move on down the bench there.
I have a big Watooka page over on my Photo Blog you might care to peruse.
